The best TV for GTA 6 has low input lag in Game Mode, HDMI 2.1 with VRR and 120 Hz, good HDR brightness and 4K resolution. OLED TVs offer the best contrast and motion. Bright mini-LED TVs are a strong alternative for bright rooms. On a budget, a 4K TV with a good Game Mode matters more than any single feature.
You do not need a new TV to play GTA 6: any TV with HDMI works. But because GTA 6 runs at 30 fps on consoles Reported, the TV's input lag and motion handling affect how responsive it feels. If you are buying anyway, here is what to prioritise.
Features that matter, in order
- Low input lag in Game Mode. Look for reviews that measure input lag. Under about 15 milliseconds at 60 Hz is very good.
- HDMI 2.1 with VRR and 120 Hz. VRR smooths frame-rate dips, and 120 Hz is needed for any 40 or 60 FPS mode on the PS5 Pro or Series X.
- Good HDR. High peak brightness and local dimming make GTA 6's sunsets and neon look right. Cheap "HDR" TVs often look better with HDR off.
- 4K resolution. Shows the most detail on PS5, Series X and PS5 Pro.
- Size and distance. 55 to 65 inches suits most living rooms at 2 to 3 metres.

HDR settings to look for: HGIG
Many TVs offer an HDR gaming mode called HGIG (HDR Gaming Interest Group). With it switched on, the TV stops adding its own tone mapping and follows the console's HDR calibration exactly, which keeps bright skies and dark interiors from clipping. PS5 and Xbox both have HDR calibration tools designed for this. If your TV has HGIG, turn it on in Game Mode, then run the console's calibration. It is one of the easiest ways to make GTA 6's lighting look as intended.
What you can skip
- 8K: no console renders GTA 6 at 8K.
- 144 Hz and above: consoles top out at 120 Hz.
- Soundbar bundles unless you need one. Headphones with the console's 3D audio are a cheaper upgrade.
Already have a TV?
Set it up properly first. Game Mode on, motion smoothing off, and HDR calibrated make a bigger difference than most upgrades. See best TV settings for GTA 6, and if you play at a desk, the best monitor for GTA 6. Resolution details are in does GTA 6 run in 4K?
FAQ
Do I need a 120 Hz TV for GTA 6?
Not for the 30 FPS mode. 120 Hz helps with VRR and is needed for any higher frame-rate mode, if Rockstar adds one.
Is OLED better for GTA 6?
OLED gives the best contrast and motion clarity. Bright mini-LED TVs are better in very bright rooms.
Does GTA 6 need HDMI 2.1?
No, any HDMI works. HDMI 2.1 adds 4K at 120 Hz and VRR support.
