GTA 6 runs at 30 frames per second on consoles, according to Rockstar North's head of development Rob Nelson. Reported He could not confirm a 60 FPS mode, at launch or later.
Rockstar has not published resolution targets for any console. The PS5 Pro version is listed as "PS5 Pro Enhanced", but the improvements have not been announced. Unknown
Frame rate is the most argued-about GTA 6 spec, partly because players were hoping for 60 FPS on the PS5 and Xbox Series X. This page gathers what has actually been said, separates it from leaks, and explains what 30 FPS will feel like and how to get the most from your TV. After launch on 19 November 2026, we will add measured frame rates and resolutions for each console from published technical analysis.

| PS5 | 30 FPS | Not announced | Reported |
| Xbox Series X | 30 FPS | Not announced | Reported |
| Xbox Series S | 30 FPS expected | Not announced, lower than Series X expected | Estimate |
| PS5 Pro | Not announced ("PS5 Pro Enhanced" tag) | Not announced | Unknown |

Is GTA 6 30 FPS?
Yes, on the base consoles, based on the best source available. Rob Nelson, Head of Development and co-studio head at Rockstar North, told YouTuber and journalist Davy Jones that GTA 6 runs at 30 FPS on console. TechPowerUp, TechRadar and others reported the interview. It is a statement from a senior Rockstar developer, but it was not a formal press release, so we mark it Reported rather than Official.
Why 30 FPS? Rockstar has not explained it. The most likely reason is the processor. The consoles use eight AMD Zen 2 cores, and a city as dense as Vice City puts a heavy load on the CPU for traffic, crowds and physics. Lowering resolution helps the graphics chip but does nothing for the CPU. That is our reading, not Rockstar's statement Estimate.
Will GTA 6 have a 60 FPS mode?
Not confirmed. Nelson said he could not confirm a 60 FPS performance mode for any console, either at launch or later. Plenty of games add one in a patch, so it is not ruled out. Digital Foundry analysts have suggested that even the PS5 Pro could struggle to hold a stable 60 FPS, because its processor is close to the base PS5's.
GTA 6 on PS5 Pro: what the "PS5 Pro Enhanced" tag might mean
The PlayStation Store listing carries the "PS5 Pro Enhanced" tag Official. Sony uses that tag for games that make use of the Pro's stronger graphics, which can mean higher resolution, better ray tracing, sharper upscaling through PSSR, or a higher frame rate. Leaks in September 2026 claimed a 40 or 60 FPS Pro mode, but nothing official backs that up Reported. Details are on the GTA 6 PS5 Pro page.
What to expect on Xbox Series S
The Series S has about 4 TFLOPS of graphics power against roughly 10 for the PS5, so it will run GTA 6 at a lower resolution, probably with some effects reduced. Unofficial infographics claim 1080p at 30 FPS with ray tracing off, but Rockstar has not confirmed any target Unknown. Read GTA 6 on Xbox Series S for the full picture.
How to make 30 FPS feel smoother
A steady 30 FPS can feel fine on a well set-up TV. A few settings make a real difference:
- Turn on Game Mode on your TV. It cuts input lag, often by a large margin.
- Turn off motion smoothing (called TruMotion, Motionflow, Auto Motion Plus and similar). In Game Mode it is usually off, but check.
- Use a 120 Hz TV with VRR if you have one. VRR helps when frame rates dip, and a 120 Hz signal can lower input lag.
- Calibrate HDR with the console's built-in HDR tool before you start.
Step-by-step settings for LG, Samsung, Sony and TCL TVs are in best TV settings for GTA 6.
30 FPS vs 60 FPS: what you will notice
At 30 FPS the game draws a new image every 33 milliseconds. At 60 FPS it is every 16.7 milliseconds. The difference shows most when you turn the camera quickly, drive fast or aim, because the motion looks less smooth and the controls feel a little slower to respond. Slow walking, cutscenes and gentle driving look much the same at either rate.
What matters as much as the number is how steady it is. A locked 30 FPS with even frame pacing feels better than a frame rate that swings between 40 and 60. Rockstar's last big console game, Red Dead Redemption 2, also ran at 30 FPS on consoles, and many players found it comfortable on a TV with Game Mode on.
Ray tracing in GTA 6
Rockstar has not listed which ray tracing effects GTA 6 uses on each console Unknown. The trailers show detailed reflections and lighting, and GTA V's newer console versions added ray-traced options, but trailers do not tell us which effects run in the final game or whether the Series S gets them. We will add a confirmed list from Rockstar or measured analysis after launch.
Does GTA 6 run in 4K?
Rockstar has not said what resolution any console renders at. Most current big games on PS5 and Series X render below 4K and use upscaling to output a 4K image, and GTA 6 will likely do something similar Estimate. Any 4K TV will show the game at its best, but a 1080p TV still works fine.
What about PC frame rates?
There is no PC version yet, so there are no PC frame rates. When one arrives, PC players should be able to go past 30 FPS with a strong enough processor and graphics card. See the GTA 6 PC requirements for our labelled estimate of the hardware needed.
