GTA 6 unlocks on 19 November 2026, and digital pre-loading opens on 12 November 2026. Official If something is not working, check the live reports below: many reports at once usually means a server problem, so waiting is the fix. If few people report it, the problem is likely on your console, and the fixes further down solve most cases.
Is GTA 6 down right now?
Live problem reports from players on this site in the last hour, plus the official status pages. Reports are from visitors, not official data.
Having a problem? Report it so other players can see if it is widespread.
Is it the servers or your console?
On launch night millions of players unlock GTA 6 within a few hours, and PlayStation Network, Xbox network and Rockstar's own services all take a heavy load. When that happens, licence checks, downloads and sign-ins slow down for everyone. The signs of a server-side problem are a sudden jump in reports above, the same error for friends on the same platform, and a warning on the official status page. In that case, do not reinstall the game or reset your console: wait 15 to 30 minutes and try again.
If reports are low and only you are affected, work through the fix for your problem below, starting with a full power cycle (not rest mode). Most launch problems are licence, storage or download issues that take a few minutes to fix.
Fixes for the most common GTA 6 problems
Pre-load finished but GTA 6 will not start or unlock
- Check the time: the game is expected to unlock at midnight in your own time zone, so it may simply not be time yet. See the release time page.
- Make sure the console is online so it can confirm the licence and download the day-one patch.
- PS5: Settings, Users and Accounts, Other, Restore Licences. Xbox: sign out and back in.
- Check the downloads queue for an unfinished patch.

Licence error or "you can't play this game"
- PS5: restore licences (Settings, Users and Accounts, Other, Restore Licences), then set this PS5 as your primary console under Console Sharing and Offline Play.
- Xbox: set this console as your home Xbox (Settings, General, Personalisation, My home Xbox). Error 0x803F8001 is the Xbox licence error.
- Boxed copy: the box holds a download code. Check that the code was redeemed on the account you are signed in with, and that the region matches.
- If many players report licence errors at the same time, the store servers are struggling. Wait and retry.
GTA 6 crashes or will not start (CE-108255-1 and similar)
- Fully power off the console, unplug it for 30 seconds and start again.
- Install the latest game update and console system software.
- PS5: start in Safe Mode and choose Rebuild Database.
- If it keeps crashing, delete and reinstall the game.

Stuck on the loading screen
- Give it a few minutes on first launch, when the game may build caches or check for updates.
- If it does not move, close the game fully and relaunch.
- Check your connection and the reports above: loading that depends on a server will stall during an outage.
- Make sure the game is installed on internal storage, a PS5 M.2 SSD or an Xbox expansion card, not a USB drive.
Cannot connect, or servers seem down
- Check the official status pages linked above for PlayStation Network, Xbox network and Rockstar services.
- Restart your router and console, and use a wired connection if you can.
- Set DNS to automatic. A public DNS can also help.
GTA 6 is single-player at launch, so the story should still work offline once the licence is confirmed. More in GTA 6 internet requirement.
Download slow or stuck
- Pause and resume the download, or restart the console.
- Use a cable instead of Wi-Fi and pause other downloads and streams in the house.
- Servers are busiest at midnight on pre-load and launch day. Downloads often speed up a few hours later.

I bought GTA 6 but it is not in my library
- Check that you are signed in with the account that bought the game.
- PS5: restore licences. Xbox: check Microsoft Store purchase history.
- Boxed copy: redeem the download code first. PS5: PlayStation Store, Redeem Code. Xbox: Store, Redeem.
- Store systems can lag behind on launch day. If the purchase shows in your order history, wait and retry.
Lag, stutter or low frame rate
- GTA 6 targets 30 fps on consoles, according to Rockstar North. A steady 30 is expected, not a fault.
- Turn on your TV's Game Mode to cut input lag, and turn off motion smoothing.
- Make sure the console has space to breathe and is not overheating.

Not enough storage

FAQ
Is GTA 6 down right now?
Check the live report count at the top of this page and the official PlayStation Network, Xbox network and Rockstar status pages. Many reports at once usually means a server problem.
Can I play GTA 6 when PSN or Xbox network is down?
Usually yes for the single-player story, once your licence is confirmed and your console is set as primary or home. The first start and day-one patch need a connection.
Why does GTA 6 say I cannot play it?
It is usually a licence check. Restore licences on PS5, set your home Xbox on Xbox, and make sure a boxed copy's code was redeemed on your account.
