GTA 6 runs on PS5 (including Slim and Digital Edition), PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. Official It is not coming to PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch 2 or mobile.
Beyond the console, you need about 230 GB of free storage (estimate), an internet connection to download it, and a TV or monitor with HDMI.
Rockstar Games built GTA 6 for the ninth generation of consoles only. That makes the console requirements short, but the four supported machines are not equal. This hub compares them side by side and links to a detailed guide for each one, so you can see what your console can do or which one to buy.
Which consoles can play GTA 6?

How the four consoles compare
All four use the same family of AMD processors and graphics, but the graphics power and storage differ a lot. These are the manufacturers' official specs Official, with measured usable storage:
| Console | GPU power | Memory | Usable storage | US list price at launch |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PS5 | 10.28 TFLOPS | 16 GB | about 667 GB (launch) or 842 GB (Slim) | $499 (disc, 2020) |
| PS5 Pro | Up to 45% faster rendering than PS5 (Sony) | 16 GB plus 2 GB | about 1.86 TB | $699 (2024) |
| Xbox Series X | 12.15 TFLOPS | 16 GB | about 802 GB | $499 (2020) |
| Xbox Series S | 4 TFLOPS | 10 GB | about 364 GB (512 GB model) | $299 (2020) |
Console prices have risen since launch in many regions, so check current prices before buying. The PS5 and Series X are close in power. The PS5 Pro is the strongest. The Series S has well under half the graphics power of the others, so it will run GTA 6 at a lower resolution.
GTA 6 on PS5
The standard PS5 is the baseline Rockstar designed around. It runs GTA 6 at 30 fps according to Rockstar North Reported. Every PS5 model plays the same game. If you are deciding between disc and digital models, there is no disc to use: the physical edition contains a download code. Read can the original PS5 run GTA 6? and PS5 digital or disc for GTA 6.
GTA 6 on PS5 Pro
The PlayStation Store listing shows GTA 6 as "PS5 Pro Enhanced" Official, but Rockstar and Sony have not said what that means. Higher resolution, better ray tracing or a faster frame rate are all possible. Reports of a 40 or 60 fps Pro mode are unconfirmed Reported. Because the Pro's processor is close to the base PS5's, a big frame-rate jump is not guaranteed. The GTA 6 PS5 Pro guide tracks the details.
GTA 6 on Xbox Series X
The Series X is roughly a match for the PS5 in power, with slightly more raw graphics performance on paper. Expect a similar experience to the PS5. It also has about 802 GB of usable storage out of the box.
GTA 6 on Xbox Series S
The Series S is the cheapest way to play GTA 6, and it is a supported platform, not a cut-down version of the game. The trade-off is resolution and detail: its graphics chip has about 4 TFLOPS against 10 to 12 for the PS5 and Series X. Rockstar has not published its target resolution Unknown. Storage is the bigger daily issue on the 512 GB model. Read GTA 6 on Xbox Series S and will GTA 6 fit on Series S?

| PS Plus or Game Pass | Not needed for single-player games on PS5 or Xbox | Estimate |

Keep your old games: backward compatibility
Moving up from a PS4 or Xbox One? You do not lose your library. The PS5 plays almost every PS4 game, and PS4 games can even run straight from a USB drive, which saves internal space for GTA 6. Xbox Series X|S plays Xbox One games and many older Xbox titles. Your GTA V progress and characters on PS4 or Xbox One carry over only within GTA V itself, not into GTA 6, since GTA 6 is a new single-player game.
Storage is the requirement most people miss
Power decides how GTA 6 looks. Storage decides whether it installs at all. With an estimated about 200 GB plus patch room, a launch PS5 with a few big games already installed may need clearing out, and the 512 GB Series S will hold GTA 6 and little else. Plan this before pre-load on 12 November 2026, not on launch night. The usable figures for every model are in the table above, and the storage calculator does the maths for you.
Which console should you buy for GTA 6?
If you already own a PS5 or Series X, you are covered. If you are buying, the PS5 is the most common choice, the PS5 Pro is the most powerful, and the Series S is the cheapest. Our best console for GTA 6 guide compares the full cost, including storage upgrades.
