GTA 6 Release Time in Every Time Zone: Pre-Load and Unlock

How the GTA 6 launch time works

Console games launch in one of two ways. A rolling midnight launch unlocks the game at 12:00 AM in each time zone, so players in New Zealand and Australia play first and players in California play last. A global launch unlocks everywhere at the same moment, which means a midnight start in one place is mid-afternoon or early morning somewhere else.

For GTA 6, store listings suggest a rolling midnight launch. Some sites claim a single unlock at 5:00 AM UTC, but no official source backs that up Unknown. If Rockstar announces one global time, the countdown and table above switch to it automatically, and the update log below will show the date.

GTA 6 release time by region

With a rolling midnight launch, this is when GTA 6 unlocks in each place, in local time:

How long the rolling launch lasts

A rolling midnight launch spreads the release over almost a full day. Midnight on 19 November in New Zealand (NZDT, UTC+13) is 11:00 UTC on 18 November. Midnight on 19 November on the US West Coast (PST, UTC minus 8) is 08:00 UTC on 19 November. That is a 21-hour window between the first and last major regions to start playing Estimate. Note that the UK is on GMT by then, because British Summer Time ends in late October.

What happens at the moment GTA 6 unlocks

Three things are worth knowing for launch night. First, a day-one patch may download at unlock, even if you pre-loaded, so keep the console online and leave spare storage. Second, PlayStation Network and Xbox network can slow down under heavy demand, which can delay licence checks for a few minutes. If the game will not start, wait a moment and retry rather than reinstalling. Third, on PS5, setting the console as your primary PS5 lets the game launch even if the network is briefly unavailable, and on Xbox the same is true for your home Xbox.

Can you play earlier by changing your console's region?

Some players switch their console's time zone or use an account from another region to unlock games early. On Xbox this sometimes works for digital games, on PlayStation it usually does not, and either way it can cause licence problems. Rockstar and the platforms may also unlock GTA 6 by server time instead of console time. We do not recommend it, and pre-loading normally works on your own account and region.

Before the game unlocks

1. Pre-load from 12 November 2026 so the full game is already on your console. See the GTA 6 pre-load guide.
2. Leave room for a day-one patch, which can arrive at unlock.
3. Update your console's system software the day before.
4. Set up your TV for gaming. Our TV settings guide takes five minutes.
