GTA 6 should fit on every supported console once you have about 230 GB free (an estimated about 200 GB install plus patch room). Estimate The Xbox Series S 512 GB is the tightest: GTA 6 will take more than half of its 364 GB of usable space.

Usable space is what the console leaves for games after its system software. We add about 15% headroom for day-one patches. When Rockstar publishes the real size, this calculator updates automatically.
How the GTA 6 storage calculator works
The calculator starts from the usable storage on your console, not the number on the box. Sony and Microsoft reserve part of the SSD for system software, so a "1 TB" Xbox Series X leaves about 802 GB for games. It then subtracts the space your games already use, adds any expansion drive you choose, and compares the result with the space GTA 6 needs.
For GTA 6 we use about 200 GB Estimate, plus about 15% extra. That extra room covers the first patch, because big games often get a day-one update of 10 to 50 GB and the console needs space to install it. The result is about 230 GB. When Rockstar or the stores publish the real file size, the calculator switches to it automatically.
Usable storage on each console
| Console | Usable for games | Room left after GTA 6 on an empty console |
|---|---|---|
| PS5 launch model, 825 GB | about 667 GB | about 437 GB |
| PS5 Slim, 1 TB | about 842 GB | about 612 GB |
| PS5 Pro, 2 TB | about 1.86 TB | about 1.63 TB |
| Xbox Series X, 1 TB | about 802 GB | about 572 GB |
| Xbox Series S, 512 GB | about 364 GB | about 134 GB |
| Xbox Series S, 1 TB | about 802 GB | about 572 GB |
Usable figures are measured values reported by TechSpot, Digital Trends and early Series S owners. They can shift by a few GB after system updates.
How to find how much space you are using
PS5: go to Settings, then Storage, then Console Storage. The bar at the top shows used and free space, and Games and Apps lists each game's size so you can choose what to remove.
Xbox Series X|S: press the Xbox button, go to Settings, System, Storage devices, and select your internal drive. You can also open My games and apps, then Manage, to sort games by size.
Enter the "used" number in the calculator. If you only know the free space, subtract it from the usable figure for your console in the table above.
If GTA 6 does not fit
- Move, do not delete. PS5 can store PS5 games on a USB drive (you copy them back to play), and it can run PS4 games straight from USB. Xbox can store Series X|S games on USB too. Copying back is much faster than downloading again.
- Clear the big ones. Call of Duty, NBA 2K and other large games often take 100 GB or more each.
- Add storage. A 1 TB or 2 TB M.2 SSD on PS5, or a Storage Expansion Card on Xbox. See best SSD for GTA 6 on PS5 and Xbox expansion cards for GTA 6.
Step-by-step menus for both consoles are in how to free up space for GTA 6. For everything about the size itself, read the GTA 6 file size guide.
Storage calculator FAQ
How much free space do I need for GTA 6?
Plan on about 230 GB: an estimated 200 GB for the game plus room for the first patch. The official size is not published yet.
Why does the calculator add 15%?
Day-one patches for large games are often 10 to 50 GB, and consoles need free space to install them. The extra 15% keeps you from running out on launch day.
Is the usable storage figure exact?
Close, but not exact. Usable space comes from measured reports and can change by a few GB with system updates. Your console's storage screen is the final word.
Will the calculator update when the real size is out?
Yes. The GTA 6 size comes from one setting on our site, so the calculator and every page update the moment we enter the official number.
