Every big Rockstar game since 2008 has reached PC eventually, so the real question for PC players is when, not if. This page tracks the official GTA 6 PC status, the latest credible reports, and what Rockstar's history suggests about the wait. If anything changes, the status line in the quick answer and the date at the top of this page change with it.

What GamesBeat reported about a GTA 6 PC release

On 13 October 2026, GamesBeat reported that Rockstar plans to release GTA 6 on PC in the first quarter of 2027, based on four anonymous industry sources. Insider Gaming, Dexerto and PCWorld all picked up the story. Rockstar did not respond to requests for comment, and Take-Two has not mentioned a PC version in its earnings calls.

A Q1 2027 date would be a much shorter wait than usual for Rockstar. Treat it as a credible report, not a confirmed date. Watch out for pages claiming Rockstar "confirmed" a PC launch in 2025 or 2026: those claims have no official source and some come from spam sites.

How long Rockstar's past PC ports took

The pattern is a delay of 7 to 19 months, with Rockstar using the time to finish the PC version and add PC features such as higher frame rates and extra graphics settings. A Q1 2027 release would break that pattern, which is one more reason to wait for Rockstar's own announcement.

Why GTA 6 is console-first

Rockstar has not explained the decision, so this part is our reading of it. Launching on two console families lets the studio optimise for fixed hardware and a known storage speed, then tune the PC version separately. It also follows the same order as GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2. Rockstar's latest PC release, GTA V Enhanced (March 2025), already required an SSD and recommended an 8 GB graphics card, which hints that a GTA 6 port will not be light Estimate.

Can you play GTA 6 on a PC another way?

• Cloud streaming: Xbox said GTA 6 will not stream to PC at launch. See GTA 6 cloud gaming for the details.
• Remote Play: if you own a PS5 and the game, PlayStation's Remote Play app can stream it from your own console to a PC on your network. The game still runs on the PS5.
• "Free download" or "PC beta" files: these are fake and often carry malware. There is no PC build to download. Read why GTA 6 free downloads are scams.

What PC players can do now

If you want to play on day one, a console is the only option. The cheapest route is an Xbox Series S, and the PS5 is the most popular choice for GTA 6 pre-orders. Our best console for GTA 6 guide compares them, and buy a console now or wait for PC? weighs the cost of each path.

If you plan to wait for the PC version, do not buy expensive hardware yet. Check where your current parts stand with Can I run GTA 6?, and read the GTA 6 PC requirements page, which switches to official specs the day Rockstar publishes them. Moving to 16 GB of RAM and an SSD are the two safe upgrades in the meantime.

Where would GTA 6 be sold on PC?

Rockstar has not said. GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 are sold through Steam, the Epic Games Store and the Rockstar Games Launcher, and every copy runs through the Rockstar Games Launcher. A GTA 6 PC version would likely follow the same pattern Estimate.
