GTA 6 Pre-Load: Date, Time and How to Pre-Load on PS5 and Xbox

Pre-loading lets you download GTA 6 a week before release, so you can play the moment it unlocks instead of waiting hours for a 200 GB download on launch night. Rockstar has confirmed the pre-load date. This guide covers how to set it up on both consoles, how much space to clear, and the problems that most often stop a pre-load.

GTA 6 pre-load key dates

Rockstar has not confirmed the exact unlock hour on launch day. Store listings point to a rolling midnight unlock in each time zone. The GTA 6 release time page has a live countdown for your time zone.

Who can pre-load GTA 6?

• Digital pre-orders on the PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store can pre-load from 12 November 2026.
• Boxed copies contain a download code instead of a disc, according to Rockstar Support. Physical editions go on sale from 12 November 2026 so buyers can redeem the code and pre-load too.
• Standard and Ultimate editions both pre-load. Edition does not change the download.

How to pre-load GTA 6 on PS5

1. Pre-order GTA 6 on the PlayStation Store, or redeem your boxed code under Settings, Users and Accounts, or on the PlayStation Store's Redeem Code option.
2. Free up space. Go to Settings, Storage, Console Storage and make sure about 230 GB is free.
3. Turn on automatic downloads. Go to Settings, Saved Data and Game/App Settings, Automatic Updates, and turn on Auto-Download.
4. Keep it online in rest mode. Go to Settings, System, Power Saving, Features Available in Rest Mode, and turn on Stay Connected to the Internet.
5. Check the queue on 12 November. Open your Game Library, select GTA 6 and choose Download if it has not started on its own. Downloads show under the Downloads/Uploads tile in the control centre.

How to pre-load GTA 6 on Xbox Series X|S

1. Pre-order GTA 6 on the Microsoft Store, or redeem your boxed code under Store, Redeem.
2. Free up space. Go to Settings, System, Storage devices, and check that about 230 GB is free. On a 512 GB Series S this may mean moving several games.
3. Set power to sleep. Go to Settings, General, Power options, and choose Sleep, so the console can download while it is off.
4. Keep games up to date. Go to Settings, System, Updates, and turn on Keep my games and apps up to date.
5. Check the queue on 12 November. Open My games and apps, then Manage, then Queue. If GTA 6 is not downloading, select it in Ready to install.

Both consoles can also start downloads remotely from the PlayStation App or the Xbox app on your phone, handy if you are at work when pre-load opens.

How long the pre-load takes

At an estimated 200 GB, the download takes about 5.5 hours at 100 Mbps and about 2 hours at 300 Mbps, if the console gets most of your plan speed. Servers are busy at midnight on pre-load day, so speeds may be lower at first. Starting any time during the week before launch still leaves plenty of time. If the pre-load does not start

• Not enough space: the most common cause. Free up more than the download size, because consoles need extra room to install.
• Pre-order on the wrong account: check that you are signed in to the account that bought the game.
• Region mismatch: PlayStation codes only work on accounts from the same region group as the store that sold them.
• Too early: the pre-load opens at local midnight, so it will not appear before then in your time zone.
