You do not have to pre-order to play GTA 6 on day one, but a digital pre-order is the only way to have the whole game downloaded before it unlocks on 19 November 2026. With an estimated download of about 200 GB, that can save hours on launch night. This guide covers where to pre-order, what you get, and how to back out if you change your mind.

Payment timing comes from store policies and retailer listings, and can vary by country Reported. The boxed edition holds a download code, not a disc, according to Rockstar Support Official.

GTA 6 pre-order bonuses

• Vintage Vice City Pack: included with pre-orders and purchases made before 20 November 2026, on both editions Official.
• One month of GTA+: included with digital pre-orders. It renews at the normal monthly price unless you cancel Official.
• Ultimate Edition extras: extra vehicles, gear and customisation for Jason and Lucia's story, unlocked as you progress Reported. Compare in Standard vs Ultimate.

There is no early access. Everyone, including Ultimate Edition owners, starts on 19 November 2026.

Digital or boxed?

For most players, digital is the better pre-order: it pre-loads automatically, includes the free month of GTA+, and has no shipping delay. Boxed copies make sense if a retailer offers a discount or you want to give the game as a gift. Because the box contains a code rather than a disc, it saves neither storage nor download time. PlayStation codes only work on accounts from the same region as the shop.

How to pre-order on PS5

1. Open the PlayStation Store and search for Grand Theft Auto VI.
2. Choose Standard or Ultimate and select Pre-Order.
3. Make sure about 230 GB will be free by 12 November 2026, and turn on automatic downloads.

How to pre-order on Xbox

1. Open the Microsoft Store on your Xbox, or on the Xbox app or website, and search for Grand Theft Auto VI.
2. Choose your edition and select Pre-order.
3. Set the console to Sleep power mode so it can pre-load while off.

Can you cancel a GTA 6 pre-order?

Yes, but the rules differ by store, and starting the download can matter Reported:

• PlayStation Store: you can usually cancel a digital pre-order and get a refund before the game starts downloading. Once pre-loading has begun, PlayStation may refuse a refund, so decide before 12 November 2026.
• Microsoft Store: digital pre-orders can usually be cancelled from your order history up to about 10 days before release, before you are charged.
• Retailers: follow the shop's own cancellation and return policy. Most let you cancel before the item ships.

Check the current terms on your store before relying on them, as refund rules vary by country.

Avoid pre-order scams

Fake pre-order sites, "cheap Ultimate keys" from unknown shops and "free early access" offers have spread with GTA 6's launch.
