No, GTA 6 is not on PS4 or Xbox One. Rockstar has released it only for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Official There is no last-generation version, and none has been announced.
PS4, PS4 Pro, Xbox One, Xbox One S and Xbox One X cannot play GTA 6. The cheapest supported console is the Xbox Series S.
GTA V launched on the PS3 and Xbox 360 before moving to newer consoles, so many players hoped GTA 6 would do the same in reverse. It will not. Rockstar Games built GTA 6 for the current consoles only, and the platform list on the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store and Rockstar's site shows PS5 and Xbox Series X|S and nothing else.
Why GTA 6 cannot run on PS4 or Xbox One
The gap between the console generations is bigger than it looks from the box. Two differences matter most for a game like GTA 6:
| Part | PS4 (2013) | PS5 (2020) |
|---|---|---|
| Processor | 8 low-power Jaguar cores, 1.6 GHz | 8 Zen 2 cores, up to 3.5 GHz |
| Graphics | 1.84 TFLOPS | 10.28 TFLOPS |
| Storage | Hard drive, roughly 100 MB/s | SSD, 5.5 GB/s raw |
| Memory | 8 GB | 16 GB |
The processor is the hard limit. Even the current consoles run GTA 6 at 30 FPS, which points to a heavy CPU load from the city's traffic and crowds. The PS4's processor is several times slower. The storage gap matters too: the PS5's SSD loads data roughly 50 times faster than the PS4's hard drive, and a world as dense as GTA 6's is built to stream that quickly. Shrinking the game to fit would mean rebuilding it, which Rockstar chose not to do.
Is a PS4 version planned for later?
No. Rockstar has not announced one, and console makers have mostly stopped releasing big new games on the older generation. If you see a "GTA 6 PS4 download" or "PS4 beta", it is fake. Our page on GTA 6 free download scams explains how these tricks work.
Can you play GTA 6 on PS4 through streaming?
Not in any official way at launch. Xbox has said GTA 6 will not stream to PC at launch, and no PlayStation cloud deal has been announced. PS4 consoles cannot stream PS5 games. See GTA 6 cloud gaming for the current situation.
Cheapest ways to upgrade for GTA 6
- Xbox Series S: the cheapest supported console. It runs GTA 6 at a lower resolution, and the 512 GB model is tight on storage. Read GTA 6 on Xbox Series S.
- PS5 Digital Edition: plays the full game, and you lose nothing without a disc drive because the boxed copy only has a download code.
- Trade in your PS4 or Xbox One at a retailer to bring the price down.
Your PS4 games mostly keep working on PS5, and Xbox One games work on Series X|S, so you do not lose your library. The cheapest way to play GTA 6 guide adds up the full cost, and GTA 6 console requirements compares every supported console.
