Storage speed decides how fast a big open world can stream in as you move through it. That is why the current consoles were built around fast SSDs, and why Rockstar now requires them on PC too.

Console figures are official Official. PC drive figures are typical manufacturer ratings. A hard drive is many times slower than the storage GTA 6 was designed around.
SATA SSD or NVMe?
Any SSD is a huge step up from a hard drive. NVMe drives are several times faster than SATA SSDs and are the safer choice if GTA 6 uses DirectStorage on PC, as GTA V Enhanced does in its recommended spec Estimate. Read DirectStorage explained.
How big a drive?
