GTA 5 has two PC editions with different official specs. GTA V Enhanced (2025) needs at least a GTX 1630 or RX 6400 with 4 GB VRAM, 8 GB RAM and an SSD, and recommends an RTX 3060 or RX 6600 XT with 16 GB RAM. GTA V Legacy (2015) runs on far older hardware, down to 4 GB RAM and a 1 GB graphics card. Official
Since March 2025, GTA 5 on PC comes in two versions. Legacy is the original 2015 release. Enhanced brings the newer console upgrades to PC, with ray tracing, DLSS and FSR support and faster loading, and asks for much newer hardware. The specs below are copied from the official Steam listings.

Both listings are official Official. Rockstar notes that requirements can change over time with updates. Owners of GTA V on PC have access to both editions in the same purchase on most stores.
Legacy or Enhanced: which should you run?
- Run Enhanced if your PC has a 4 GB or better modern graphics card, 8 GB or more of RAM and an SSD. It looks and loads better, and supports DLSS and FSR.
- Run Legacy on older PCs, hard drives or graphics cards older than the GTX 16 series. It also has the widest mod support.
GTA 5 on laptops and Steam Deck
Most gaming laptops from the last five years meet GTA V Enhanced's minimum, and anything with an RTX 3060 Laptop GPU or better is close to its recommended spec. Laptops with only integrated graphics are a better fit for the Legacy edition at low settings. On Steam Deck, GTA V's story mode can run, but GTA Online stopped working on Steam Deck and Linux in September 2024, when Rockstar added BattlEye anti-cheat to the PC version. If online play matters to you, a Windows PC is required.
What GTA 5 Enhanced tells us about GTA 6
GTA V Enhanced is Rockstar's newest set of PC specs, so it is the best guide to how the studio writes requirements today. Three takeaways Estimate:
- An SSD is now required. If a 2013 game needs one, GTA 6 almost surely will.
- 16 GB RAM and an 8 GB card are "recommended" for an old game. GTA 6, built for the PS5, should ask for more.
- Windows 11 is recommended. A 2027 PC port may lean on Windows 11 features like DirectStorage.

Yes. Its official minimum spec says SSD required. The Legacy edition can still run from a hard drive.

If my PC runs GTA 5 Enhanced, will it run GTA 6?
