GTA 6 asks for a big step up. It runs only on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, where GTA 5 and RDR2 started on older consoles. Its estimated install is about twice GTA 5 Enhanced's 105 GB, and on PC, which has no version yet, we expect it to need more than GTA 5 Enhanced's recommended RTX 3060 and 16 GB RAM. Estimate
Comparing GTA 6 with the two games that came before it is the clearest way to see what it demands. GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 have official PC specs. GTA 6 does not yet, so its PC column is our labelled estimate.

Why GTA 6 needs so much more
- No last-gen version: GTA 5 and RDR2 were designed to run on 2005 and 2013 hardware. GTA 6 was built only for 2020 hardware, with an eight-core processor and a fast SSD.
- A denser world: more people, traffic and detail on screen, which leans on the processor and is a likely reason for the 30 FPS console target.
- Bigger textures and world data: which is why the install is expected to roughly double GTA 5 Enhanced's.
What drops out with GTA 6
Hardware that ran GTA 5 or RDR2 but will not run GTA 6, based on what is official and on our estimate for PC:
- PS4, PS4 Pro, Xbox One and Xbox One X: not supported Official.
- Hard drives on PC: GTA V Enhanced already requires an SSD, so expect GTA 6 to as well Estimate.
- 8 GB of RAM: likely below the PC minimum Estimate.
- 2 GB and 4 GB graphics cards: well below what GTA 6 is likely to ask for Estimate.
What stays the same is the basic recipe: a single-player story first, a huge open world, and a PC version that arrives after the console launch.
What this means for your setup
On console, any PS5 or Xbox Series X|S works, but plan for the storage. Check yours in the storage calculator. On PC, meeting GTA 5 Enhanced's recommended spec is a good start, not a guarantee. See the full GTA 6 PC requirements estimate, and the official specs for GTA 5 and RDR2.
